Update 26 March 2015: Here is part of the APDOuk report on the 2015 Conference: “It’s been another exciting year of growth and change for the UK Association of Professional Declutterers and Organisers (apdo-uk) and this was reflected and celebrated at our annual conference in London on March 10 and 11. Vision Inspires Change was this year’s theme, and we were inspired by speakers from the US and the UK, including a fascinating question and answer session with a panel of APDOuk professional organiser members. Our annual get-together is a sign of how the UK decluttering industry, interest in what we do and our organisation itself is growing and this time day one was open to non-members.
Day one’s keynote speaker was US-based time management expert, writer and mother of seven Rivka Caroline of SoBeOrganized, who offered excellent advice on making the most of your work time and further wisdom in a workshop on writing to promote your business. Day two brought another keynote speaker from across the pond. Anne Blumer of Solutions For You, and founder of the USA’s Institute for Professional Organizers, shared some of the experiences that have shaped her career and what she wished she had known when she started out, and also gave a workshop on personal safety for organisers and their clients.”
In between the keynote speakers APDOuk members shared their experiences and expertise on a variety of topics :- the importance of personal energy management when working as a professional declutterer, recommendations on how to get your IT organised and guidance on working with hoarders. There was a workshop on expanding from home organising into interior design and staging property for sale, plus down to earth advice on growing a business. A high spot of the conference, particularly for newer members, was the Q&A panel session of experienced APDOuk organisers including the Declutter Divas Zoe Steel and Allyson Pritchard; whom you may have seen on TV. The panel were quizzed on topics ranging from handling psychological and emotional factors relating to clients’ clutter to how they market their services and what essentials they keep in their organiser’s toolkit.”
Another great conference arranged by the APDOuk management team and enjoyed by members and non members alike. I’m already looking forward to next years APDouk conference on March 15 and 16 2016 at the same venue; Resource For London. Again one of the days will be open to members of the general public and the booking information and tickets will be listed on Eventbrite.
